At the end of the 19th century chocolate was becoming increasingly popular in Europe and so Danish greengrocer Anthon Berg decides in 1884 to take a chance with some cocoa beans. By 1886 his chocolate store in Copenhagen becomes so popular that there were regularly queues outside and 1898 saw the introduction of large scale production as well as the fine pink wrapping. In 1901 Anthon's son Gustav inherits the family business and promises to continue to put quality first and production continues to increase. The liqueur chocolates were introduced in 1922.
